Dear Lovelady ISD Families,
We are looking forward to a great start to the 2025–2026 school year! The first day for students will be August 13, 2025. As we approach the start of school, we want to inform you about a new Texas law signed by Governor Abbott.  Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, this new law — House Bill 1481 — will change how students are allowed to use personal devices during the school day.  This law was passed to help students stay focused, reduce distractions, and support better academic outcomes.
If students opt to bring a cell phone to campus, the following procedures will be in place during instructional calendar days.

Lovelady ISD’s Personal Student Communication Device Guidelines for 2025–2026:
No Smartwatches or Earbuds Allowed — Only cell phones
 Cell Phone Collection:
If students choose to bring a cell phone to campus, these procedures will be in place:
• Students will place their phones in a locked cabinet with assigned slots upon entering the building. Students will receive training on procedures by the campus administration.
• Phones must be turned off before being placed in storage.
• Phones will be securely stored and returned at the end of the student’s instructional day.
• Procedures will be in place to return phones if students leave early, including for extracurricular activities.
 Pre-K – 4th Grade:
• Phones must remain off and stored in assigned lockers during the instructional day.
 Non-Compliance:
• Consequences will follow the Student Code of Conduct.
 Exceptions:
• Allowed for documented learning, medical, or safety needs through individualized plans.

We are sharing this information now, so families have time to prepare.
Sincerely,
Wendy Tullos
Superintendent
